About The Event
To celebrate the centenary of Jack Kerouac’s birth Theatre On The Edge weaves together hip words, cool jazz and hot be-bop in a homage to the author of the classic novel, On The Road.
In his day the Angel Headed Hipster reflected the dreams of the Beat generation. This play with dance and jazz music of the period paints a portrait of Kerouac that shows the inner life of the man and the world that influenced his writing. Kerouac never found what he was looking for in life, but we should remember him as a jazz poet blowing a long blues on a Sunday afternoon.
The play was first commissioned for the Humber Mouth Festival in 2007, the 50th anniversary of the publication of On The Road. It toured regionally and was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe that year.
