SUMMARY:Moving Pictures - Tribute To Rush
DESCRIPTION:Moving Pictures play for over two hours covering all the classics such as Tom Sawyer\, The Spirit of Radio and Xanadu. \n“That was the 3rd best Rush show I’ve ever seen. The first 2 were Rush.” \nMoving Pictures play for over two hours covering all the classics such as Tom Sawyer\, The Spirit of Radio and Xanadu (with doubleneck guitars) plus some deeper cuts such as By Tor and later belters such as Far Cry and Headlong Flight. \nFeaturing drummer Jamie Dunleavey — this young lady from St Andrews is scarily on point. \nIt takes a unique set of skills to sing AND play bass AND play keys like Geddy Lee — John Power is incredibly accurate. \nGuitarist Steve Brown is a lifelong Rush fan and pro player with way too many guitars and wicked sense of humour — not unlike Mr Lifeson! \nMoving Pictures are regularly on the bill at Rush fan conventions\, have recordings on all 3 Songs For Neil albums and have performed for and recorded with Rush producer Terry Brown.

SUMMARY:Deborah Bonham Band ‘Bonham-Bullick’ at Wrecking Ball Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Deborah Bonham\, over the course of an impressive career\, has established herself as one of the finest Blues\, Rock and Soul singers that the UK has produced. A string of critically acclaimed original albums and captivating standing ovation concert performances (Royal Albert Hall\, London Palladium and on the extensive 2018 USA ‘Stars Align Tour’ with Paul Rodgers\, Jeff Beck and Ann Wilson of Heart) have consistently garnered rave reviews. \nBelfast born guitarist Peter Bullick\, lauded by the press for his passionate playing\, exudes his influences from the world’s greatest Blues Guitarists in every note. Chosen by Paul Rodgers to represent Paul Kossoff\, touing the UK and USA as his ‘Free Spirit’ backing band culminating in a Billboard Chart #2 ‘Free Spirit Live at The Royal Albert Hall London’\, along with the rest of Deborah Bonham’s Band\, Gerard Louis (keys)\, Ian Rowley (Bass) and Rich Newman (Drums)\, who themselves have played and recorded with Steve Marriott\, Rory Gallagher\, Robert Plant\, alongside Bullick. \n‘BONHAM-BULLICK’ the New Album on USA label Quarto Valley Records\, is an inspiring blend of Blues\, Rock and Soul interpretations\, and not only features their long standing live band but also special guest musicians who have recorded and performed with Robert Plant\, Portishead\, Massive Attack\, Waterboys\, Heart\, Bobby Rush and Ann Peebles. \n“Album sounds great. Performances are soulful and moving.” Rolling Stone USA \n“Bonham is in fine voice throughout while Bullick’s Kossoff-inspired playing shows why Paul Rodgers values him so highly.” Blues In Britain \n“A contender for album of the year. It’s magnificent. Really loved every track.” Blues Matters \n“Powerfully produced and immaculately played album\, Bonham and Bullick do a fine job of making the songs their own.” Classic Rock \n“Bonham-Bullick is one heck of a ride from end to end and belongs on every short list of 2022’s most vital new releases. Don’t let it pass you by.” Rock and Blues Muse \n“Killer guitar tone from Bullick & soulful power from Deborah Bonham. Blues aficionados will love the new Bonham-Bullick record.” UAWIL/Pantheon USA \n“In the tradition of the great Blues-Rock of the 1970s while also being deeply entrenched in Classic Blues and Soul.” JJ French Connection USA \n“There are only a select few guitar players who can achieve the Paul Kossoff tone and it’s apparent from the first note of the new Bonham-Bullick album\, Peter Bullick summons Kossoff’s spellbinding style.” Irish News \n“Wow is all I got to say after that\, and boy can Deborah Bonham sing.” Johnnie Walker’s Rock Show BBC R2 \n“If David Bowie played the Blues\, it might’ve sounded something like this… ACE!” Cerys Matthews’ Blues Show BBC Radio 2 (‘It Ain’t Easy’ by Bonham-Bullick) \n“Deborah Bonham -The best female vocalist and tightest band we should have been hearing for the last 20 years. An arena worthy show in a New York club!”\nCarol Miller – ‘Get the Led Out’ Q104.3 FM USA \n“Top-flight Blues-Slingers deliver in style. They’re no strangers to entertaining crowds of thousands at international Blues festivals when they’re not backing Paul Rodgers live\, so catching the Bonham-Bullick band at an intimate Sold-Out venue on this occasion was an opportunity too good to miss.” Classic Rock Magazine \n“I warned you they’d blow you away…” Paul Rodgers

SUMMARY:Carrie Martin Album Launch + Special Guest
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist CARRIE MARTIN returns with a new album\, Evergreen\, due for CD release in March 2023\, followed by a vinyl version the following month\, via Psychotron Records. \nOn returning to a music career she had put on extended hold for over two decades while raising a family\, Hull native Carrie was originally inspired by a meeting with legendary guitarist Gordon Giltrap – an encounter which led to a lasting friendship and Gordon becoming something of a mentor for her return to the stage. Since that time she has gone from strength to strength\, with this latest release following on the heels of the Seductive Sky and Entity albums\, both of which received widespread critical praise. \nNever one to be pigeonholed as a mere ‘folkie’\, as it were\, Evergreen manages to be Carrie’s most eclectic and varied collection yet\, featuring tracks ranging from the delicate folk of ‘Lost In The Right Time’\, through the soul-blues of ‘Deep Blue Heaven’ and the poppier ‘Girl With A Feather’\, all the way to the prog-rock influences displayed on the ambitious eight-minute ‘Keep In The Light’. Followers of Carrie’s career will be well aware of her classic ‘Maria And The Moon’\, a haunting piece based on a remarkable book by author Louise Beech\, and will no doubt be delighted to see that she has turned her inspiration to the work of Beech once again with ‘End Of Story’\, which again ties in with another one of her books. \nIllustrating the respect in which Carrie Martin is held is the line-up of guest musicians on the album. Oliver Wakeman (son\, of course\, of Rick\, and like him a former member of Yes) plays on Keep In The Light as well as End Of Story\, while guitarist Roger Fisher\, formerly a key member of Heart\, also appears on Keep In The Light\, along with Jeremy Richardson and Wayne Proctor on bass and drums. Elsewhere ex-Argent guitarist provides some bluesy guitar on Deep Blue Heaven\, and Karl Cassidy (brother of the late singer Eva Cassidy) contributes violin on She Doesn’t Know. There are also appearances from Sarah Dean (aka ‘The Incredible String Blonde’) on harp\, Andy Banfield on percussion and Jamie Mallender and Jim Waltham on bass. Finally\, making it a ‘family affair’ of sorts\, Carrie’s son Ben Martin himself chips in with guitar\, vocal and harp\, as well as sharing production duties. The CD release features one extra bonus track not included on the vinyl; a version of Gordon Giltrap’s piece ‘Loren’\, from his album The Last Of England. \nApril promises to be a busy month for Carrie as\, together with the vinyl release of Evergreen\, she is due to head over to Los Angeles for an engagement with her sponsors Vintage Guitars\, but her UK followers may be assured that she will be planning plenty of live work on home soil to build on the album’s release.

SUMMARY:Martin Turner (ex-Wishbone Ash) at Wrecking Ball Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Martin Turner and his band return to the concert stages during 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Wishbone Ash’s seminal double live album “Live Dates” (1973). \nWishbone Ash was formed by West Country musicians Martin Turner and Steve Upton\, who arrived in London in 1969 to embark on their musical journey. Intent on creating a musical sound that was rich in texture and melody\, Martin Turner envisaged the band’s innovative harmony-guitar hallmark and guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell were recruited via a now legendary Melody Maker advert. The partnership of the original line-up of Wishbone Ash forged a unique musical identity that would produce some of rock music’s best loved works and influencing numerous successful bands\, resulting in millions of album sales and concert attendances. Wishbone Ash would become one of the most enduring British rock acts – its name synonymous with high quality guitar-driven melodic rock music. \nFive decades later\, the music of the classic line-ups of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Wishbone Ash\, Argus\, Pilgrimage\, Wishbone Four\, There’s the Rub\, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and have touched the hearts of several generations of music fans. As lead vocalist\, bassist and key creative force\, founding original member Martin Turner was central to the critical and commercial success of Wishbone Ash’s most revered albums\, with his passionate vocal delivery\, songwriting ability\, keen melodic sense and production values being major ingredients in the definitive Wishbone Ash sound. Martin Turner continues to delight audiences with performances of the band’s best loved works with his current line-up\, which features guitarists Danny Willson and Misha Nikolic\, and drummer Sonny Flint. \nThe 2023 tour will see Martin and his band performing a show featuring music from Live Dates as well as other Wishbone Ash classics. Capturing the original Wishbone Ash line-up at its very best during the peak of its commercial success and featuring epic tracks such as “The King Will Come”\, “Warrior”\, “Throw Down the Sword” and “Phoenix”\, Live Dates remains one of the most enduring and best loved double live albums of the rock era. Martin Turner’s Live Dates 50th Anniversary Tour is an event that no Wishbone Ash aficionado will want to miss.

SUMMARY:The Unravelling Wilburys at Wrecking Ball Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:This top tribute show is more than just a tribute – they are the complete package! Their great combination of brilliant musicianship and tongue in cheek humour has had rave reviews throughout the UK. Playing the country-rock songs of the Traveling Wilburys\, the band also steal some choice numbers from its five iconic members; Roy Orbison\, Tom Petty\, George Harrison\, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne. \nThe fabulous UNRAVELLING WILBURYS are made up of Sticky Willy\, Walter\, Thumper\, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk Wilbury\, the “real” Wilbury brothers\, who present their own unique slant on what it means to be a tribute band. The show tells the story of the fateful night in Nashville’s Tootsies Bar in 1987\, when their songs were (allegedly) stolen by Messrs Orbison & Co. and the hard road they had to tread to get ‘em back. \nWith a set list comprising of songs including ‘Handle With Care’\, ‘Tweeter And The Monkey Man’\, ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’\, ‘Pretty Woman’\, ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’\, ‘Mr Blue Sky’\, ‘Mr Tambourine Man’ and ‘American Girl’\, this is a show not to be missed!

SUMMARY:Katie Spencer & Henry Parker at Wrecking Ball Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Katie Spencer & Henry Parker head to the Wrecking Ball Arts Centre for a mid-winter concert in the heart of Hull. \nKatie Spencer \nRaised in the East Yorkshire flatlands on the fringes of Hull\, Katie Spencer’s landscape has always been that of open skies and widening rivers. Industry still shapes the city here. The people\, as with the land\, are moulded by tides and stark horizons. \nStand in the same place for long enough and you can watch the sun rise over the North Sea and then sink into crop fields\, glowing auburn in late-summer sun. It is this sense of space and movement that flows through Katie Spencer’s music. \nThe songwriting\, and most notably her guitar playing stems from a time when the steel-stringed instrument was truly finding its voice. Artists like Joni Mitchell\, James Taylor and perhaps most evidently Michael Chapman\, flow into her sound\, carrying with them the warmth and idealism of the early 70’s folk and songwriter movements.Katie Spencer’s widely celebratednew album\, The Edge of the Land(2022)\, follows her debut release\, Weather Beaten (2019) which was praised for its unique song-craft\, spell-binding musicianship and crystal sonic clarity\, as she brought together fans of music from all backgrounds and walks of life. \nDelicate and un-rushed\, the ten songs on The Edge of the Land drift by like ships on the horizon\, yet intimacy and introspection still remain. \nThe inclusivity found in her recorded works is most apparent when on stage\, with a personal connection and humour that allows the listener time to appreciate the emotion of the music. Her historical gig list is extensive\, taking in the world-renowned Celtic Connections and Cambridge Folk Festival\, whilst performances with Danny Thompson and Alan Thomson have left audiences in awe of her confidence and craftsmanship. \nAs live music has returned to our world\, we can expect to see Katie Spencer where she belongs once more\, eyes closed\, in the moment\, performing. \n“The way Katie plays is never contrived\, showy or imitative; it sounds true … a world-class folk guitarist” – fRoots \n“Katie’s guitar playing has echoes of my dear friend the late great Bert Jansch. Like a musical weaver she threads her poetic lyrics through the guitar’s strings and produces little tapestries of song” – Ralph McTell \n“She makes her own quietly ingenious musical statement through the notes and silences\, making every note\, phrase and musical punctuation mark count in a deft\, elegant and intelligently undemonstrative fashion … Katie’s stylish blend of warmth and precision proves intensely captivating!” – Folk Radio \nHenry Parker \nWith his eco-conscious debut album ‘Silent Spring’ (2019)\, Henry Parker laid down a new sound for modern folk music\, drawing deep from the well of the sixties and seventies revival. His style is a clear joining of the past and the present\, a unique voice in the folk world that echoes with sounds\nof the tradition\, whilst venturing beyond\, into the realms of folk-rock and psych. \nA devoted guitarist since childhood\, Henry Parker’s musical roots go back to a self appointed upbringing in rock and heavy metal\, yet\, at the age of 20\, paths were taken that led him adrift. Soon enthralled by the ethereal playing of Bert Jansch and Nick Drake; finger-picking and open tunings rapidly became the essence of his sound. Coupled with a love for his immediate moorland surroundings of West Yorkshire\, we are presented with a strain of informed\, progressive folk music found nowhere else. \nHaving spent the past 5 years playing headline concerts and supporting many of his musical heroes\, including Michael Chapman\, Wizz Jones and Bridget St John\, Henry Parker’s 2nd album\, ‘Lammas Fair’\, released at the end of 2021\, brings him to the forefront of the progressive folk music world. Heralded across the music press as an essential album\, it is this latest release that has seen Parker emerge as a respected artist in the worlds of folk-rock\, psych and traditional music. \n“His relaxed vocals and songwriting are as warm and open as his tunings.” 8/10 – Uncut Magazine \n“What Parker does so effectively is to blend ancient with early-70’s and modern styles.” – Mojo ★★★★ \nwww.katiespencer.net \nhttps://www.facebook.com/katiespencermusic/\nhttps://twitter.com/KRSpencerMusic\nhttps://www.instagram.com/katiespencermusic/\nhttps://www.patreon.com/katiespencer

SUMMARY:Pavey Ark at Wrecking Ball Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Pavey Ark and friends bring 2020 to a close with an intimate concert at the Wrecking Ball Arts Centre. \nThis is their only Hull concert since their appearance on the Glastonbury Acoustic stage in June. With full band\, strings and horns it is certainly a show not to be missed. The band will be playing tracks from their debut album plus many news songs from their forthcoming 2023 follow up. \nAtmospheric vocals\, strings and horns glide over finger-picked guitar\, melodic bass and complex percussion. The result is a beautiful cinematic indie-folk sound that evades immediate comparison\, but upon further listening\, the band’s wide range of influences start to reveal themselves. From the laid back 60s / 70s folk of Jack.C.Frank and Rodrigues through to Nick Drake and Radiohead. Pavey Ark’s debut album Close Your Eyes and Think of Nothing received wonderful reviews from UNCUT\, Record Collector\, Folk Radio\, BBC 6 Music and many more. \n“A striking debut.” – UNCUT \n“Pavey Ark set themselves up as a simple folk band then pull the rug out from under your feet. A call to arms from a band that demands to be heard.” – Folk Radio
