SUMMARY:Sonny Flint’s Beano Bluesbreakers
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS:  Sonny Flint’s Beano Bluesbreakers – Fri Apr 23rd 2027 8pm-10pm – Wrecking Ball Arts Centre \n\nFormed to mark the 60th anniversary of John Mayall’s Blues Breakers with\nEric Clapton\, Sonny Flint’s Beano Bluesbreakers\, is a tribute to one of the\nmost influential recordings in British blues history. The project is\ndedicated to faithfully recreating the sound\, feel and musical intent of the original album\, which helped define the UK’s electric blues movement. \nThe band’s approach is rooted in authenticity\, and its performances closely\nfollow the original arrangements\, with careful attention paid to tone\,\ndynamics\, and period detail. Neil Roberts recreates Eric Clapton’s landmark\nguitar work using Gibson guitars and Marshall amplifiers\, while Sonny Flint\nplays a vintage Premier 54 Outfit drum kit consistent with the era. Vintage\nkeyboard sounds\, bass tones and harmonica complete a sound palette designed\nto reflect the character of the original sessions. \nThe project is further distinguished by its direct musical heritage. Sonny\nFlint is the son of Hughie Flint\, the original drummer on the album\,\nbringing a rare generational connection to the music itself. Vocalist Laine\nHines is the son of Denny Laine\, whose work with The Moody Blues and Wings\nplaces him firmly within the lineage of British blues and rock. These\nconnections add depth and perspective to a project built on respect\,\nunderstanding and lived experience. \nAs the album reaches its 60th anniversary\, Sonny Flint’s Beano\nBluesbreakers offers audiences the opportunity to hear this landmark\nrecording performed in full\, plus additional songs from the original live\nset\, with precision\, restraint and deep reverence for its place in music\nhistory. \n*Sonny Flint — Drums* \nSonny Flint began drumming at the age of thirteen\, inspired by his father\,\nHughie Flint\, the original drummer on John Mayall’s Blues Breakers with\nEric Clapton. Since then\, he has built a wide-ranging career across rock\nand blues\, including tours of the UK\, Germany\, Holland and the US with\nMartin Turner (ex-Wishbone Ash). He is now working with veteran\nsinger-songwriter Claire Hamill as part of the Claire Hamill Band. \n*Laine Hines — Vocals & Harmonica* \nLaine Hines is a blues-rooted vocalist and harmonica player with a\npowerful\, soulful delivery. Son of Denny Laine\, he brings an innate musical\ninstinct shaped by heritage\, while firmly establishing his own authentic\nvoice. His singing captures the spirit\, phrasing and emotional honesty\nessential to the Bluesbreakers sound. \n*Neil Roberts — Guitar* \nNeil Roberts has spent much of the last decade immersed in the music of\nEric Clapton\, performing across the UK and Europe in acclaimed tribute\nprojects and working alongside legendary Cream lyricist Pete Brown. A\ndedicated student of the Beano era\, Neil brings both technical authority\nand deep stylistic understanding to the Bluesbreakers’ classic repertoire.\nHis passion for vintage Gibsons\, early Marshall amps and mid-60s Mod\naesthetics completes the picture. \n*Pete Billing — Bass* \nPete Billing is a highly experienced bassist whose musical journey spans\nblues\, R&B\, funk\, soul\, jazz and rock. Having played hundreds of gigs\nacross London and the South East\, he brings a deep groove and broad musical\nperspective to the band. His career highlights include sharing stages with\nmajor artists and jamming with true rock legends—experience he now channels\nback into the blues where it all began. \n*Rick Pentecost — Keyboards* \nRick Pentecost has devoted his life to music\, combining a long-standing\ncareer as a professional piano tuner to world-class artists\, with decades\nof performance across a wide range of bands and styles. From early ska and\nblues projects to numerous high-profile tribute acts\, his versatility and\nmusical depth are unmistakable. A lifelong blues enthusiast\, Rick sees the\nBeano material as a natural and exciting musical home.

Recorded live and captured in a moment of true\ninspiration\, this raw and emotional record pays tribute to many of Albert’s\nmusical influences – the classic rock ’n’ roll of the Everly Brothers’ “Bye Bye\nLove”\, the deep feeling of Rodney Crowell’s ballad “Till I Can Gain Control\nAgain”\, and the centrepiece of the album in Jimmy Webb’s “The\nHighwayman” – a powerful and dramatic\, and most probably definitive\,\nversion of a true musical masterpiece.\n“Gypsy Man” is Alberts next solo album featuring his favourite Buddy Holly\nsongs – a musician Albert has always held in high regard.\nIn 2024 Albert recorded his latest album\, “Lay it Down” at the legendary Konk\nStudios. This is a mixture of tracks that Albert has wanted to do for some time\nand is getting rave reviews. All the albums are available through his on-line\nshop at albertleeofficial.com.\nMusician Quotes\n“I think that the new recording of Highwayman is fantastic\, the production is a\ntrue stand out. Albert\, your vocals and guitar playing throughout the album are\ngreat. Loved The Everly references and the other references to the 50s artists\nthat we all grew up on. It is now my long distance driving disc.”\nJimmy Webb\n“He’s the ultimate virtuoso. His skill is extraordinary\, his ear is extraordinary\nand he’s gifted on just about every level.”\nEric Clapton\nWhen he gets into his stride\, I can’t even keep up with him.\nEric Clapton\n“Great musicians make you want to dance\, make you cry and make you fall in\nlove – Albert does that with his playing.”\nJools Holland\n“There are great players\, and there are geniuses\, and Albert is a genius.”\nChris Farlowe\nIs it the speed\, is it the expression\, is it the sensitivity to what other people are\ndoing in the room at that moment and bringing out the best of them? It’s all of\nthose things. He just has an instinctive way of bringing out the best of\nwhatever music he’s playing.\nBob Harris\nHe’s a master\, and really a musical treasure. In terms of talent to\nrecognisability\, Albert’s balance is way off – he should be very very famous.\nHuey Lewis\nHe’s quite obviously a musical genius.\nRalph McTell
